Integrated Camera disappears and appears randomly

The Integrated camera randomly disappears from Device Manager and randomly appears for a short time. It works when it appears, but it happens less and less. I tried different drivers and different OS, and tried switching the privacy shutter.

I took the laptop apart from the back to upgrade the SSD and clean the fans, but couldn't find the camera connector on the back of the motherboard.

It sounds like a connection problem to me (corrosion?). It happens often (several reports on Reddit with similar models) but no one seems to find a solution.

Can anyone help me find the connection port on the motherboard so I can check it? I suspect it is located somewhere under the keyboard and maybe just loose or damaged by moisture. If it is relatively easily accessible it could be easily fixed I guess. Or maybe it is located somewhere under the screen and requires screen replacement, then I won't mess with it.

Hi @borisnovikov

Without looking at the schematic¹ to know for sure, but nowadays the camera circuit is incorporated in the EDP cable (40 wire? video cable) between the motherboard and the display assembly.

It could either be 2 dedicated wires in the cable between the motherboard and the camera or it can also just be a 2 wire USB data link between the motherboard and the display assembly and then the camera is connected to a controller in the display assembly.

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop model series that might help On p.73 it gets to how to remove the camera module from the display assembly, so you can check if it is securely connected or not.

¹ Supplier example only as I couldn't find a free download for the schematic
