Hameed, all cars manufactured in the United States since 1996 are required by law to have a diagnostic connector in the drivers compartment. The protocol is called OBD-II, or On Board Diagnostics, revision 2. This is an interface to the computers built into the car and allows you to access their DTC's, or Diagnostic Trouble Codes. These are a combination of one letter and four digits indicating a specific problem with the vehicle. There's a thread over on the Kia forums that lists what are purported to be all of the possible trouble codes you can see on a Kia.

Of course, you have to actually plug something into the OBD-II port in order to read those codes, and that device is usually referred to as an OBD-II Scanner. The scanners available on the market range from several thousand dollars for professional quality devices used in auto repair shops, all the way down to a device that can be bought for less than $5 USD that connects to an app on your phone via bluetooth. There are any number of free apps available that can use this tool; one of the more popular ones is called Torque Lite. It's available for Android phones and can read out and clear the trouble codes from your car, and also reset the check engine light, which is technically called the MIL, or Malfunction Indicator Light. I've only ever used it on Android, so I don't know that there's an official iOS version available, but it appears there may be one out there for Google Chrome OS.

Here in the US, most auto parts stores will hook up their scanner to your car and give you a list of the trouble codes found for free, but I don't know about policies in the rest of the world.

Anyway, now that you know all about OBD-II scanners, what you'll need to do is to hook one up to your car and scan the trouble codes. Once you know what code(s) are present, that will tell you what your next step should be to fix the problem. A check engine light by itself doesn't tell you how bad the problem is; it could be something you can safely ignore for years, or it could indicate immediate and catastrophic failure - there's just no way to know without reading the codes. The light can even be tripped by not putting the gas cap on correctly, but you need to get the codes in order to tell.
