How do I Uninstall ChromeOS Flex

I have a late 2010 11" Macbook Air with a 1.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB of RAM. I have no replacement parts installed, it is all original. I installed ChromeOS Flex on it to give it life again, but I don't really like it now and regret installing ChromeOS. Whenever I try to go to recovery mode it does not work, it just boots into ChromeOS Flex, and my reinstallation drives are not detected in startup options. How do I uninstall ChromeOS Flex and get back to Mac OS X El Capitan?

Are you able to enter recovery mode by holding down the Command and R keys during the devices startup?

I already answered that, no I am not. It just boots straight into ChromeOS Flex without any signs that it is different than a regular boot without Command+R

@eucador Have you tried CMD-OPT-R?

No, I wasn't aware of that startup key combination. I'll try it when I get home. Fingers crossed it works!

It does not work, it just boots into ChromeOS Flex. The only startup options key that works seems to be OPT to get to Startup Options

You probably wiped out the recovery partition when installing ChromeOS. To solve this, you'll likely need to create a MacOS installer flash drive, boot the computer holding the "option" key, then boot from said USB disk. Then you can reformat the hard drive and install MacOS.

You can download USB installer images for older Macs directly from Apple here. The newest version your machine can run is likely High Sierra but only a download of Sierra is available. Just install that then upgrade if desired.

To make the bootable USB installer, reference this guide. If you don't have access to another Mac, there are ways to create an installer on a PC as well. It should be relatively easy to find with some googling.

I have already tried that, but it seems that none of my USB drives are seen in the menu when I use the option key.

How are you preparing the drive? This Mac definitely is capable of booting from a USB disk. You may also want to reset the SMC on the machine and see if that has any effect. I believe the only other way to re-install the OS on this machine would be to remove the SSD, and place it in an external enclosure or install it in a similar Mac and run the installer on that machine.

You are right, I am not preparing my installer drive correctly! A quick look told me that the drive was the wrong format. Thanks!
