MacBook Pro temps and fans behaving erratically?

I have a mid 2015 15" MBP (2.8ghz with AMD GPU) and the temperature with the CPU is extremely erratic. 100C after cold boot and quickly dropping to 90 then 80 and sometimes 70. Then it will spike back up, fans go crazy and then back down. The GPU temperature seems to stay stable at around 35C. I have cleaned it out, re pasted the CPU and GPU, reset SMC and PRAM which seems to have no affect at all. The CPU also goes down to 800mhz occasionally it turns off the display and puts the fans at 100% (if they aren't there already) then 10 seconds later it comes back to the login prompt like it just woke from sleep. It came with a "new" aftermarket no name battery that has zero cycles so I guess that is a possibility. The battery has a manufacturing date of 2015? I have made sure to reseat all connections properly.

Did you note your batteries charge level? As well as the charging at Zero Watts! Also note the batts temp 119F which is quite high! While the cycle count is very low and the age of the battery is quite old!

This system needs a fresh battery!

The fans are reacting to the charging logics overheating as it can’t charge the battery. The ramp up and down is when SMC kills the charging so what we have here is the lull in the charge but the battery temp is still high.

Thanks Dan, that is what I figured especially since it doesn't always want to charge, especially under any sort of load. I think I will order a new iFixit battery when I can. It is pretty strange that the aftermarket battery was manufactured before the computer was but I guess it could have just sat in storage for a while before being bought.

I know it has been a while but I figure I would update just in case someone else has the same issue. I ended up running some benchmarks and noticed it would almost immediately spike up even after a battery replacement. I ended up just replacing the heat sink and it appears to have resolved it. I assume that it must have gotten a leak in it at some point. I do believe that the battery probably was faulty but in my specific case it didn’t seem like it was causing the issues except maybe it pause charging. Thank you.
