The Dodge Dakota (called the Ram Dakota for its final two years of production) is a mid-size pickup truck from Chrysler’s Ram division (formerly called the Dodge Truck division). The second-generation Dakota began development in 1991, though they were not introduced until 1996 for the 1997 model year.

How do I replace the mode door actuator?

Hissing sound coming from vacuum lines attached to vent selector. Vent stuck on default of defrost.

Hi Rick,

Although I'm not familiar with your particular rig, vacuum operated vent controls are pretty common. The dash selector switches the vacuum to different vacuum motors (actuators) to open or close vent panels. It sounds pretty definite that you have a vacuum leak, which means you essentially don't have power to run the vent doors.

You'll need to get into the control panel for the heater and locate the vacuum leak. It could be a split vacuum line or even one that's just worked its way loose and only needs to be plugged back in.

Take a look at those vacuum lines and let us know what you find.

Rick Armand you did not tell us the exact year for your Dakota. Here is the HVAC part of a 2002 from the service manual HVAC Section and page 221 shows the mode door actuator removal. I included the part of the Body section Body For Center Console Removal for the center console removal. Both mode control switches use electric actuators to control the mode doors.
