Using the Battery pre-cut adhesive

I've bought an ifixit battery replacement kit for my phone, and one question comes up after reading all the tutorials. I notice the battery pre-cut adhesive only has adhesive on one side. Are these thermal adhesive, where you have to heat up the phone with the iOpener to secure the battery?
The old battery is already out, and I'm at the stage of installing the new one.
