Where is the battery gas gauge temp sensor located?

Hi,

I have a 2020 MacBook Pro M1 that works absolutely fine. Every so often however the fan spins up to max RPM with no load on the system. I've installed Macs fan control and I can see that when this happens the 'battery gas gauge' sensor is reporting no reading.

As I say, the laptop is otherwise working just fine and I can actually turn down the fan manually with Macs fan control (albeit to 1000rpm not 0) but I'd like to know where the gas gauge sensor is located so I can try giving it a clean with some isopropyl alcohol.

Many thanks,

Ben

I'm already using Coconut battery - this is a secondary machine so the battery only has 55 cycles on it and obviously reports perfect health.

Is there any point in using TG Pro over Macs Fan Control?

@benjiblobs - While Mac Fan Control has gotten better over the years, I still find TG Pro easier to work with as it offers within the main window a better presentation of what I need to help people remotely and offers logging so issues which are more fleeting can be seen.

I would go to CoconutBattery’s web site to update your app if it’s not current.

And lastly, I think you need to go to the Apple Store if you are running the latest CB as I haven’t seen any issues with the Mac’s battery reporting in the newer M series systems.

As an example that logging will help with your issue. Then using it to see within Activity Monitor to see what process is active at the same point.
