Hi all,
I'm experiencing a rather strange issue with this laptop. It always freezes immediately after I turn it on.
This seems to happen even without hard drives (or any kind of storage mediums connected. I can sometimes get into BIOS setup, and looking at how it displays the current time, the seconds stop incrementing after a about 10-60 seconds.
Running it only on AC or battery seems to not influence the issue at all.
Any help is much appreciated!

Try a full power refresh and check if that resolves the problem. It may be that a corrupted BIOS is preventing a normal start.
If it turns on (or even if it doesn't) but then the same thing happens again some time later (days, weeks even) it may be that the RTC battery (Real Time Clock aka CMOS battery) on the motherboard needs to be replaced. This battery maintains the BIOS settings when the laptop is turned off and when its voltage get too low (usually <2.5V DC) the BIOS can become corrupted.
Unfortunately this battery is mounted on the underside of the motherboard, so the laptop would have to be nearly completely disassembled to get to it.

The model number of the battery is stamped on the battery itself, but usually it is a CR2032 which is available most everywhere e.g. supermarkets.
You may find that after the RTC battery is removed/replaced that when the laptop is turned on, there's a message saying that the date and time is incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been reset back to factory default. Once the D&T have been corrected the message won't appear the next time the laptop is turned on.

I have considered replacing the RTC battery, and do have one prepared, but I wouldn't expect it to behave the way it does even if it didn't have one at all.
What I've noticed is that the whole system basically freezes after 10-60 seconds of having been powered on. The thing I found perplexing is that the BIOS time also freezes. Not in the sense that it forgets what time it is after loosing power, but it stops counting (and also responding to inputs). The only thing it can still do after that point is to be forcefully shut down by holding the power button for a number of seconds.
Amongst other things, I assumed it would be the SSD. I removed it and tried booting from a USB stick. It freezes before it has the chance to boot. I thought maybe it's RAM, so I tried running it with 1 stick at a time. Same thing happens.
My one main concern is that the CPU might be on its way out, although I have no clue whether this is a common failure mode for a CPU.
Without an RTC battery, unless you removed the main battery and then held the power on button for 30 seconds the BIOS might not reset as the power might not drain that quickly from the motherboard. It may take tens of minutes and if you reinsert the battery before this time nothing will have changed
Holding the power button operated forces the laptop to try and start which of course it can't but this does drain the power from the board very quickly.
Did you try the power refresh, you didn't say?
Apologies, @jayeff. Yes, a power refresh was one of the first things I started with.
What do the status indicators at the front left of the laptop show (if anything)?
Not even being able to get into BIOS indicates a POST (Power On Self Test) problem and usually there's an indication given by a blink error code using the status lights, what the problem may be.
It doesn't seem like a CPU problem because if it was failing or had failed you wouldn't even get that far when starting.
It may be a power problem somewhere on the motherboard.
What is the motherboard's board number (as printed on the board itself)?
You may need to find the schematics for the motherboard to find out what's happening. I couldn't find it by searching for the laptop's model number but sometimes looking for the board number works
