2008 VW 2.5 Rabbit Radiator Fans Do not stop.

I have a 2008 VW rabbit 2.5l that is having an issue with the fans. The fans are new and the continue to run for hours after the engine is off. What other reason would there be for the fans to continue running until the batter is drained? Is there a relay to access or a fan control module?

The fans are temperature controlled. The might normally run for a bit after engine shut down. If they do not stop, the thermostat might be defective. If they were newly replaced the installation may be defective.

Can you say that again? That doesn't make any sense as coolant temps have not changed. Only thing that was done was that the engine was cleaned and pressure washed. Since then fans have been running constantly while the car is off draining the battery

@saabtweaker88 check the control module that, according to the limited info I've been able to find, is by the left (large) fan. The pressure washing could have damaged this, causing the problem.

@saabtweaker88 also, if the thermostat isn't working properly then it could THINK the Temps are high enough to need the fan, even when they aren't. Thermostats can fail without you doing anything to the vehicle.

Is it by the fan or is it in the fan? If it is in the fan, I have already replaced the fan assembly after the pressure washing to try and remedy the issue and nothing has changed. I have also replaced the coolant temperature sensor and the fans of the new assembly continue to spin and drain the battery.

The temp sensor is measuring the coolant temp so it is not in the fan. It might be a separate sensor inline with the fan power or it might be the same one that is feeding the controller and the controller is driving the fans.

@saabtweaker88 seems to be noted by NHTSA; check TSB 10052040 for more (really not much more) of an explanation. SB 10052040 6035. This sounds like your vehicle is having an issue with the Engine Control Module (would be consistent with the electrical diagram too, since you already checked/replaced the other parts). I would suggest that you have your Golf scanned for any codes and see what pops up. You might even have to consider getting it reset.
