Upgrade Mac mini (late 2014 to 2tb ssd

I bought my mini used already updated to 250 gb ssd. I want to upgrade or add a 2tb ssd. Is there anything I need to look for to do this? Are there specific ssd to be compatible with this model mac? Can I upgrade the RAM anymore?

I have EMC 2840. 2.6 i5 8gb RAM.

Storage Dimensions:2.5" (9.5 mm)/Proprietary*Storage Interface:Serial ATA (6 Gb/s)/PCIe*

Details:*This model has a Serial ATA III (6 Gb/s) connector for a 2.5" hard drive or SSD as well as a proprietary PCIe connector for a "blade" SSD, although as noted by OWC, the cable to connect a "blade" SSD to the PCIe connector is not present unless the system is configured with a "Fusion Drive" at the time of initial purchase.

Is there a model ssd I should go with?

@maspain2112 - Which interface? You will need a custom Apple SSD if you go with the blade drive. Review this guide The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs

The other option is the SATA interface which you can install a 2.5" SSD.

Keep in mind you only have these two interfaces you can't swap things around. So your option is what you currently don't have in your system.

As far as RAM this series does not offer RAM upgradability! The RAM is soldered to the logic board so what you have is all you'll have.

@maspain2112 - Whats your work flow? What apps are you using and why are you jumping to a 2TB drive? Upgrading an older system with soldered RAM may not be the best option. You state your system only has 8GB of RAM so depending on your workflow and apps you may need to get a system with more RAM vs getting more storage. Someone who works on videos may need a bigger drive as well as 250 GB is on the small side.

There is no perfect answer as what I use my Mac Mini is not the same as your usage. In my case my mini is a media server so it has 4TB of storage (two 2TB SSD's) and 8GB of RAM. My Mac Pro trashcan has 64GB of RAM and 2TB of onboard SSD with a RAID drive with 8TB of storage. My use is photography and I work on extreme large images for dioramas and photo/stage backgrounds.

Mine is just a regular home computer. I have a 4tb NAS that I keep photos & music stored. My HD keeps getting filled. I tried to keep photo library pointed to the nas but it keeps defaulting to the desktop. Then I have to manually move everything back to the nas. I just need more space for normal operations. I’m still learning the infrastructure of the Mac vs pc to streamline operations. Upgrading the HD’s seamed like the easiest method to do so.
