Replace Floor Lamp Internal Switch

I have a 10’ tall floor lamp with a failed three way switch. The switch is mounted inside one of the four tubes that screw together. Both ends of each tube are plugged with the threaded hardware to assemble the tubes. There is a small hole in each threaded plug to allow the 18-2 wire to transit, but those holes are not large enough for the 3way switch to pass through. How can I either disassemble the threaded plugs from the tubes or otherwise access and replace the 3way switch. Thanks
