HP Pavilion 15-p Hard Drive Replacement

I’d like to buy exactly this hard disk but I can’t find it on the internet. I want to change the hard disk board cause I want to safe the datas and I didn’t made any backup. I know… stupid.

The days of doing raw PCB swaps died with the mid 2000’s Maxtor DiamondCrash* drives after they were discontinued :-(. These days, you need to find a exact match donor and transfer the ROM on the newer drives. Even the PCB needs to be a match! It just cannot be done now.
*This is old school IT slang for DiamondMax before Seagate bought Maxtor. This is like how we call the IBM DeskStar drives "DeathStar" due to their high fail rate, and tendency to eat the magnetic coating on the glass platters.
These "DeathStar" drives are a total De-Ja-Vu, especially modern drives like the Seagate Rosewood drives. They literally fail the same way!
The main problem isn't the PCB and ROM transfer, though. The issue is the preamp and headstack need to be a match, or a very, very, very close at the absolute bare minimum. A lot of the time me and you will not have any luck with this (even with an IC swap) as a lot of these drives just will not match because they use what is available at the time, and even 2 drives from the same batch may end up being too different - you need to take it to a recovery company who has a stockpile who can properly match it. YES, 1 day between IDENTICAL batches is ENOUGH to cause a mismatch in these new drives!!! DO NOT MESS WITH THE DRIVE - SEND IT TO A PROFESSIONAL OR YOU COULD LOSE ANY CHANCE YOU HAD! You can't do this one at home.
If you just want to swap the drive, any good SSD will work - it's a bit of a process, but it is doable on these. This laptop will not run Win11, so you probably want to weigh that part a bit. I would not put another spinning drive in it, especially a laptop. See here for replacement steps.

Nick is correct. The days of swapping HD circuit boards are long over.
How do you know the old drive is dead? What have you done to try to retreive the data? Is it completely dead or it powers on but you can't asccess the data? Does the BIOS see the drive?
A data recovery company may be the only solution.

It is confusing but that is not what the OP is asking.
Hi @ruggb Yes you are correct. I used swap drive electronics quite often in data recovery jobs didn't understand that is what he was asking about.
You should share the image of the hard drive for a better solution. Anyhow This hard drive should work with your Pavilion 15-p.

hard disk PCB exchange is not recommended. When the mfg formats the platters, data is stored on the PCB relating to the platters.
The replacement PCB will have different data. That may result in no operation, or unreliable operation, but likely not the same reliable operation you have had.

What actually happened? do you have a picture to share?
Older drives can be a challenge to find.... even you replace i think you also need to transplant the ROM chip over to the doner board.

You can try HP EG001200JWJNQ (https://www.allhdd.com/hp-eg001200jwjnq-...) It's a good replacement of HP Pavilion 15-p hard drive.

Even boards on the same model/version HDD are not always exactly the same. I am going to bet, you just learned a hard lesson of why backup is important.

What I believe he is talking about is replacing thel drive's circuit board. That is why the same model is wanted for data recovery.
