The keyboard light turns on but screen is black

There are a number of reason why the display isn’t working.

Have you tried operating the screen brightness function key (top row of keyboard) to check if this alters anything, you didn’t say?

Try shining a torch at an angle close to the screen when the laptop is on and check if you can see any images e.g. Windows desktop screen. It will be very faint if it is there so trying this in a darkened room may help to see it if it is there.

If you can see an image OK then there is a screen backlight problem. This could be caused by a faulty video cable connection (either end motherboard or LCD panel, a faulty video cable, a faulty LCD panel or a faulty backlight power circuit on the motherboard.

If you can’t see an image then it is better if you get a USB-C to HDMI adapter - example only and use it to connect the laptop to an external monitor. Don’t forget to press the appropriate function key to extend the display to an external monitor

That way you will know if there is video being sent from the motherboard and that the motherboard shouldn’t be the problem. Then it may only be a faulty video cable connection (either end motherboard or LCD panel), a faulty video cable or a faulty LCD panel.

It shows how to open the laptop so that the video cable and the LCD panel can be accessed etc. It also has the part numbers for the various components.

If a component is determined to be faulty, search online using the appropriate part number only in the search term of your browser, to get results for suppliers of the part.
