Where is hard drive located?

I’m trying to remove the hard drive, I’m sure there’s another name for it. I got a toolkit on amazon, I can’t remember the brand, and it didn’t come with a torx screwdriver. I was going to purchase one on here, but I’m not sure which one I need. Anyone know which one I should use?

With phones, the primary storage is typically soldered down to the logic board along with any other components such as the processor and memory to name just two others. By running a quick search, it seems that the 610 does have expandable storage if you have run out, meaning you can simply slot in an SD card. Once you have installed the SD card, you can move over your apps if you have a storage problem by doing the following:

  1. From the Home screen, swipe up and then tap Settings > Storage.
  2. Under Portable storage, tap next to the storage card name.
  3. Tap Format as internal > Erase & format > Format.
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions to move your installed apps and their data from the phone storage to the storage card.

If, however, you have got a corrupted storage chip on your phone, you might be out of luck for a quick, cheap, simply fix like the one listed above, and would have to resort to physically desoldering the storage chip on the phone and replacing it with one that has been verified. My honest opinion, is that if that’s the case then you would be better off with a new phone as you would need a broken phone of the same variety in order to get the correct storage chip.

Would this delete your data if you replaced the storage chip with a new one?

@quaydzero

Since the data is stored on the chip unless it was damaged, either electrically or mechanically it would stay on the old chip so installing a new "identical one" would be like starting from scratch i.e. you would have to install the bootloader, firmware etc to start using it.

Not much point in doing all this as the phone is old and outdated and the operating system (Android OS 4.4.2) cannot be updated to run the newer apps due to the other hardware limitations of the phone.
