Goes black when moving

Dear,

When i move my Dell or press on the casing the screen goes to stripes en turns off.

Then it reboots and windows is going to recovery.

I opened the device and pressed everything back in to place.

But the problem is still there.

Hi @luuktoo ,

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere, as simply moving it should not cause what appears to be a power failure. (By “screen goes to stripes en turns off” I assume you mean that the laptop turns off and not just the screen).

Does it do this when you have the charger connected and switched on?

If not, check the connection to the battery to ensure that it is secure.

You probably don’t need this but here’s a link to the service manual for your laptop.

Pressing the case is a different matter as you may be causing something to move, perhaps by distorting it and again causing a power disruption. If it is loose it would take much movement.

Can you isolate the spot exactly where you have to press the case to make this happen? Is it the same spot every time?

If so you may be able to see what is below the spot on the case that you’re pressing and see if anything is amiss.

Dear @jayeff

Yes the laptop turns off and restarts again.

When you press it on the left side or you just hold the device at an angle it will just go the stripes.

Maybe it is indeed the battery but how can i be for sure?

It also happens when the charger is in place.

Btw thank you for the reply

Hi @luuktoo ,

On the left side is interesting, as that is the side where the power connector is located.

You'll probably have to open the laptop and check out the power connector etc.

Use the service manual, to view how to "remove" the battery as this will show you what to do to gain access so that you can inspect if things are OK.

Just be aware that there is still power on the systemboard until you disconnect the battery (even if the laptop is off), so disconnect the battery from the laptop (you don't have to actually remove it) before you start touching anything else.
