Pump needs a new valve.

I have a very old Black & Decker Air Station. It's an electric air pump great for pumping up car tires etc. So despite being probably 20 years old, it still works great, with one catch. Like most pump valves, when you flip the lever back, it squishes a piece of rubber that squeezes the valve of the tube/wheel, which creates the seal. Well after 20 years, the rubber in my valve is completely dry-rotted. If I could get a new valve, this old pump would be as good as new. But as it stands now, you can't use the pump because all the air the pump tries to put in the tube, just escapes out of the pump's poor seal around the tube's valve.

You can get every thing you need from Granger.

You should be able to get new hose, fittings and a valve from your local hardware store.

I just looked at the websites for both of my local hardware stores, plus the site you linked to. I don't see any valves for air pumps. Can you give me a more specific link?

All the True value & Do It Best Hardware stores in my area carry this stuff. Granger specializes in providing for the needs of industrial maintenance.

Here is your valve

Here is the hose

Here are the fittings you will need.

Did you look at the pictures I posted? This is just a bicycle/car pump. The whole thing is only worth about $50. I'm not going to spend $100 constructing my own industrial strength air chuck system for this pump. I just wanted a new basic valve like what these kind of pumps all have already, but new.

Again, I would suggest you call or go down to a local hardware store to acquire the parts you need.+ You should be able to get the fitting and the air chuck for about $10 - $15 which will save you the cost of shipping from Granger.

Problem solved! Could not find a replacement "chuck" for my Air Station air hose. AutoZone couldn't help me but suggested I try my local Tractor Supply store. ( Those stores are great by the way. )

The service dept guy looked at it and said "maybe". He got a package off the shelf that contained a new air hose and chuck. He unscrewed the old hose out of the unit and screwed in the new one. Perfect fit. I've tried it and it works fine.

The brand name of the new hose/chuck is Campbell Hausfeld and is called "3 ft. Air Hose & Air Chuck." It cost $10.99 plus tax.

The new hose is not as long as the original one but it's quite adequet.

This is the bomb! I have a 40 year old air station that had the valve fall off this week as I was pumping up my bike tires. I went in search of a new hose and valve, but B & D was not helpful at all. I was pricing out new air inflator/compressors and decided to google again and came upon this post. Tractor Supply moved in a couple of months ago not far from me. They had the part that was mentioned and it is perfect! Thank you all so much! (I paid $12.99, but so much better than a new unit!)

I know this post is old, but I simply wrap a little teflon tape on the valve stem threads to seal the chuck. It holds the pressure great and the car tires now fill up in half the time.

I’d take the housing apart to access the hose to check for splits in the rubber or clamp failures within.

That’s all I have. Good luck.

Thanks...I might give it a go; even though I don't hear any sounds of escaping air. At this point, it can't hurt to take a look.

Unlike the little car units, the AS was stout enough to fill SUV tires and other high-volume inflatables without much fuss. I'm happy to switch to one of those little guys for bike tires; but sure would be nice to have something with more guts on hand.

EXACTLY my problem with my air pump...

Are you all laughing at the back and forth eMails?

I went on the sites suggested, and wasted a lot of time trying to find the part.

Is that what's so funny?

My question is ...why post a suggestion with no result?

The laughing was because I was trying to send the person to the local hardware store to get what they needed or at the very least give them a call. Most "local" hardware stores do not have a web site. Looking on the WEB for this type of item will not be time or cost effective. There are somethings local hardware stores always have in stock. The parts necessary to repair the air hose are some of them. Besides some place local it is going to be hard to find a place willing to sell 3' - 4' of air hose.

There is no DIY. The Grainger answer is NOT correct. The only way to do it is to bring it to a B&D Service Center. http://www.blackanddecker.com/Service-Ce...

original question: From John M 3/29/11; best correct answer: from Larry 12/3/11;

confirmation that that was best correct answer: from applegirl704 6/23/14;

and now a reconfirmation: from RonL 11/25/15.... same problem, same solution. Approx 30 year old B&D Air Station in need of new hose and chuck valve. Just bought the Campbell Hausfeld "3 ft. Air Hose & Air Chuck" at my local Tractor Supply store (which I didn't even know existed) for $12.99. So glad I stumbled on to this site and this thread. By the way, my air station chuck valve came off a couple years ago and I bought a Craftsman air pump for about $50 and the motor burned up less than two years later. Talk about Junk. 30 year old Air Station now once again going strong.

Further confirmation that the Campbell Hausfeld 3' Air Hose & Air Chuck, part # GR003700AJ (just purchased for $12.99 at my local Tractor Supply) replaces the air hose & chuck on the B & D Air Station, model 9527.

My Air Station chuck is OK…just a little finicky.

Problem with mine is a lack of pressure. Filled 3 bicycle tires just fine(to 60 and 80#); but when filling the fourth, I heard a “pop” and the motor started to “freewheel” a bit like there was no backpressure. Sure enough, the AS won’t put more than 10-15# in a tire, then it just runs. Put my thumb over the chuck opening and just get a moderate amount of pulsating pressure.

Anybody still out there who might have an idea? Like many others, I’ve gotten great service from the AS over about 15 years. Hate to “chuck” it; but don’t want to spend lots of time and money on a fix.

Cheers, y’all

Rick
