This camera is one of Sony’s HX camera series. Repairing this device is similar to the other cameras of the HX series, and requires screwdrivers and prying tools.

Hi,

It may be that there is a corrupted data setting in the camera.

Perhaps performing a power refresh will resolve the problem. Unfortunately as there is also a non user removable back up battery in the camera it will involve more than just removing the main battery.

Try the following:

Remove the main battery.

Switch on the power button, then press and hold the menu button for a while, at least a couple of minutes, then release. As the backup battery is designed to maintain some settings for at least a month, (with the main battery removed), hopefully it will be more quickly discharged using this method. The idea is to drain the backup battery so that there is no power, residual or otherwise, left in the camera and hopefully any corrupted data setting will restore back to the default condition.

Be aware that all the settings in the camera will restore to their default values

You will know when the back up battery has been discharged as there will be no date and time indication in the camera, when the main battery is reinstalled and the camera is switched on.

If this works you will need to allow the backup battery at least 24 hours to fully recharge from the main battery.

Hi

If it is the screen, and since they are non reparable and have to be replaced, then here is a link to the Ifixit LCD repair guide for your camera.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 LCD Screen Replacement

Here is a link to a supplier of the part. It is not a recommendation to use them. it is just shown to give an idea of the cost. There are others online that may suit you better. Just search for Sony DSC-HX300 LCD screen part or replacement part.

Hi,

i suppose it depends on where the feed for the viewfinder is taken from. If it is from the same point as the LCD then yes I agree with you that it also should the same as the LCD but if it is taken from a different output point on the motherboard then perhaps that is why it is alright. I don't know where it is taken from. The pc images are a bit different because the image has been converted to data by the camera rather than being converted into a format compatible with a LCD screen.

So just removing the main battery only and replacing it after a minute or so has not done anything if you have tried that?

EDIT:

Just had another thought.

Try taking 3 pictures (or viewing) of a single colour. i.e. 1 totally red picture, 1 Blue and 1 green. (Hopefully you can find suitable subjects to photograph. Perhaps use your pc to do an LCD test where you can get the whole screen to be one colour and take a photo of that. Just search online for LCD screen test.

The idea is that perhaps your LCD is faulty and is "missing a colour. It takes a combination of all 3 colours to produce the colour required. e.g. white = 100% red + 100% green + 100% blue. Different % of the three will give different colours (up to 64000 of them.) It can sometimes be that if one is missing that it looks like a negative. Does your LCD screen have a "tinge" to it? If it looks bluish or reddish or greenish you know at least one colour is working - the tinge colour, - you just have to work out which one isn't.

is this only happening with the images taken, you could have a filter switched on or effect turned on, if this also happens for the ons screen menus then it is likely you have an accessibility option turned on for visually impaired people.

My camera has no options for these things. The pictures are normal in the computer and the viewfinder of the camera.
