The PE70 2QE is a 17.3" laptop released by MSI in 2015. It is part of the Prestige series of business laptops and has both an Intel Core processor and dedicated Nvidia graphics card inside.

Can I upgrade my GPU?

I bought this laptop about a year ago and I recently thought about buying a htc vive. I ran the steam VR test and the outcome was not really what I accpected. The test told me that I would not be able to run VR and the problem was bound to my GPU. Am I able to upgrade my GPU or not ?

My laptop is from MSI (pe70 2Qe). It has 8GB of ram, a 1 TB harddrive, a Intel core I7 processor. The current graphics card is the NVIDIA GTX 960M

Hi,

As with most laptops, the GPU is either incorporated with the CPU or it is permanently mounted directly on the motherboard. It is unusual to have a "plug in" type video adapter (GPU).

According to the products page from MSI regarding your laptop (https://www.msi.com/Laptop/PE70-2QE.html...) it has an "embedded" GPU. I take this to mean that the GPU in mounted on the motherboard and that it is not a removable module.

Therefore I think that you will not be able to upgrade the GPU in your laptop.
