Hard reset after software update

After updating the software the device wont boot beond the Garmin logo. The hard reset does not work (holding in the powerbutton and pressing lower right corner). I have talked to Garmin support but they say its an file error in the installation of the software and cant/wont support since it is an older device.

Can a hard reset be done in another way? Eg. by disassembling the memory and erasing on a conputer?
