MacBook wont start up

I have a Macbook pro that won't start up, the hard drive is still spinning.

I had a copy of El capitan on my usb plugged it into the old macbook pro then choose the usb then the screen flashed now its stuck with the hard drive still spinning with a black screen no chime too..

Got any suggestion?

Was the system working and then you started upgrading?

Do you have access to a second Mac System to connect to your system Via FireWire? If you do can you get your system into Target Mode and see the drive from the other system?
