Phone suddenly stopped working

This phone is from 2012 but has always worked well. Then yesterday is suddenly stopped working. The screen went black and it will not turn on again, even after being on the charger for 8 hours.

When it stopped working, there was no warning sign. Also, I was not using data at the time (was just texting, not playing games....besides, I never play games on the phone). The phone was NOT dropped and nor did it get wet. There is no known reason for it to suddenly stop working.

The battery might just have went dead. Especially if that was the original battery. Even thought rechargable batteries are supposed to last a long time they do age and many go bad just like that. If there is no other damage get a new battery and charge it up and put it in your phone. The phone should work after a new one is installed if there is no other damage.

Thank you, Brian. I just came back from the Samsung store and they tested my phone with a new battery but it still wouldn't work (or even charge at all). The new battery worked fine on other phones but not on mine. So they said it's something wrong with the phone but they don't know what. They said I can take it to the Samsung Service Centre but that it would probably cost at least $250 to fix it so they said I may as well get a new phone. Bah! I don't need a new phone, was perfectly happy with my old one and do not need an upgrade. Guess I may have no choice though. Sigh. Anyway, thanks again for responding and trying to help, I really appreciate it!

I have had the same problem today. Will not switch on at all and I do have an alternative battery and it still does not work. I also love my phone .....

Any help would be appreciated.

I had to get a new phone. I am still looking up reasons why my phone just quit, it was a galaxy s 6, r.i.p. the t- mobile guy ended up saying,m “to be honest with you ma'am, some phones do just die.” Not exactly comforting words, but from now on I have to backup my photos and not store passwords on my phone. Lesson learned.
