Boot lock after root password change

This is probably a question for RoaDKilL.

Customer changed his user and root passwords from installation DVD because he forgot his old one. Customer has been known to take a nip or two. Unit boots up to log in screen. When new password is entered nothing happens. It does not go on nor does it shake. Would not go to target mode nor boot from internal DVD. I dropped in a formatted brand new 320 drive. Boots to very slowly blinking folder with question mark. Screen seems dimmed. Will not see DVD internal or external drive. Tried external keyboard to no avail. Will not reset PRAM with internal or external keyboard commands. Removed additional RAM, no results. Made image of old drive and image will not open on another Mac with the new password. I can't think of anything else to do.

Hi Richard, I don't know if you've tried this so I will pass it on in the hopes it may resolve your problem since you state the owner was messing with passwords. Good luck Ralph

I think you got it Ralph. I'd did a search for something I remember RDKL talking about this root password problem but could not locate it. Will let you know.

Your a lifesaver Ralph. I changed the RAM, was able to zap the PRAM and am now installing a new system. The only question is how much to charge the customer for the 5 1/2 hours I already have into it.

Glad it worked out. Ralph + for the question
