Wireless Network Connection periodically becomes unresponsive.

This usually happens after one or two hour's use. Since I haven't been able to find a corresponding process in the task manager (at least not one I'm comfortable trying)I have to restart the whole system in order to get my connection back which is, to say the least, very frustrating.

I'm running Windows XP - service pack 3.

The laptop itself is a refurb so I can't be 100% sure of the hardware.

Using a different browser doesn't seem to have any effect either way.

What is the router you are using? How far away? Any walls or floors between you and the router? Did you try to "repair" the connection?

The problem is that I can't use the "repair" option, the whole interface becomes unresponsive.

Hi!

At this point you don't have a really good way to see if you're having a hardware or software problem. As this is a refurb. you just can't trust the hardware, it's the nature of the beast. That being said, both newegg.com and tigerdirect.com have USB - wireless adapters available for about $20. You may want to consider getting one of those as a baseline. Disable your built in wireless and install the new adapter. You can reasonably assume the new device works, so if the problem persists, you can narrow your troubleshooting down to the software (OS) / driver arena. OTOH, disabling the problematic device and installing a (presumed) good one may just fix the problem entirely.

Good luck!

Low battery power

will cause loss of wireless connections... If you are using the battery only this could be it. Check your cycles on the battery, it may need replacing.

If this answer is acceptable please return and mark it.

Good Luck,

N.

Well it's definitely the laptop. There are three other people in the house using the same network and none of them seem to have any problems.

It's not that either, I'm pretty much always using mains power. Thanks anyway.

I have the same computer doing the same thing in my house. All other computers work fine on wireless. Mine is also a refurb. Very frustrating. On a few different occasions, it just stopped the connection for no reason. I never changed the settings.

As a temporary fix until this is resolved, there is a way you can re-enable your internet connection without restarting the computer, which might help you.

You should have an icon in your task bar in the bottom right for your wireless internet signal. You should be able to right click on that, and choose to Enable the wireless adapter again (assuming it has been Disabled).

If this option is not present, you should be able to open My Computer / My Documents, and somewhere on the left should be a quick link to View Network Connections. From there you will be able to right click on your Wireless Adapter, and choose to Enable it again.

I've tried these fixes and neither of them work. The problem is that the adapter becomes unresponsive, not disabled.

Thanks for the info, I also still seek a solution. Also happen on Aspire One of ACER.

Note: When that happen there are no more icon in the tray for wireless connect. Trying to re-enable it give error Enable fail...
