ice maker not dumping ice

Whirlpool refrigerator model GZ25FSRXYY2

Our ice maker is no longer dumping the ice it makes, I think the ice maker mold thermostat may need to be replaced. This thermostat is N. O ( normally open ) and when cold from the ice in the mold it will close, which tells the motor to dump the ice. how can this be tested ? To check it with an ohm meter will do no good because it is N. O. and it has to be ice cold to close. If I remove it from the ice maker and cover it with ice will that make it cold enough to close so it can be tested with an ohm meter ?

Please email me direct at leewalt@powerbank.net because I may not be able to find this place again

THANKS !

Icemaker Mold Thermostat

If the ice maker is not working the icemaker mold thermostat might be defective. Inside the control module of the ice maker is a thermostat which monitors the temperature of the ice mold (ice tray). Once the mold reaches the proper temperature the ice maker starts a harvest cycle by ejecting the ice cubes and refilling with water. If the mold thermostat is defective the ice maker doesn't advance. The thermostat can be checked for continuity. (See if it is closed). Replace it as needed. The freezer temp should be between 0-5 degrees for optimum performance.

Icemaker Switch

If the refrigerator ice maker is not working, check the icemaker switch. This switch frequently gets turned off by accident. If the switch is turned on but the ice maker still doesn't work, check the switch for continuity with an Ohm meter. Replace as needed.

Ice Level Control Board

If the ice maker is not working the ice level control board might be defective. This refrigerator is equipped with an infrared light beam to detect the level of ice in the ice bucket. As the level of ice reaches the top, the beam is interrupted and the ice maker shuts off. As ice is used up and the level of ice drops below the beam, the ice maker starts up again. If the ice level control board fails, the ice maker will stop making ice.

Door Switch

If the refrigerator ice maker is not working, the door switch might be defective. When the freezer door is opened the freezer door switch does two things, it turns on the light in the freezer and turns off the ice maker and dispenser. If the door switch fails the dispenser will not turn on. The switch can be checked for continuity with an Ohm meter. If it doesn’t have continuity it should be replaced.

Icemaker Module

If the ice maker is not working the icemaker module at the front might be defective. The module has a motor that cycles the ice ejector arms around to push the ice cubes out when the ice maker thermostat closes. It also has contacts in it for the mold heater and water inlet valve. The motor or contacts of the module can fail. Usually there are test points in the module that a service person can use to determine if there is a problem with it or one of the related ice maker components.

I have the same problem and it's not resolved by any of those suggestions but thank you for the information. It's not the thermostat. My thermostat is working just fine. My ice maker is working. Makes ice. Ice tray is full. Just doesn't want to dump the tray all as of yesterday. I am checking to see if there are levers that have been moved bc we have had ice that has been recently clogging the ice shoot recently so, we've been, frequently, removing the ice bucket in and out of the freezer, more than normal. I'm, also, concerned that if we have some kind of little leak that's causing the tray to make the ice fill too much, it may be over freezing which could be causing it to not dump. ☹️ I live in Phoenix so, it's 108* and with monsoon right now, humidity is sometimes up to 50-60% so I need my ice lol I can't live like this

I turned the power switch off and back on. Removed all ice pieces frozen on any parts. Moved all levers and the arm on back of the bin and I got the tray to dump my ice! I wish I knew which step gave me my ice but I'm just so happy to have it working

Help. I am having the same problem. After $300 ($120 labor and a new ice maker) and an imcompetent repair men, I still have the same problem. The same repair men now suggests a control board, another $300! I do not have any confidence that this would solve the problem. I turn the frig off. Defrosted and cleaned out the frig, turned it back on. The ice was made and 4 cubes were dropped and that was the end of my excitement! What can I do now?

I've having the same problem with Kim Janssen. Spent over $300 (labor & new ice maker) and still having the same problem. The same repair men told me that something wrong with the main board and needs to replace.

If I do manually, the ice maker turn and dump the ices to ice bin ok.

This LG 2 years old, model LFX25974ST/06.

Please help....

Thanks

I've been reading all day on this. If your ice maker is making ice but not dumping it, it is likely a bad connection (on the end of the ice maker once you get it removed, under a panel) or a bad heating element. The heating element warms up to allow the ice to dump. If this is broken your cubes will form but will stay in the ice tray. You can buy a new one for around 40 dollars. If it is a connection you can use a multimeter to find where it's bad and typically solder a piece of copper in to make the connection good again. I hope this helps!

Here's a Twist on this common problem we are having. My ice tray was not filling with water so I assumed it was a bad fill valve. so to prove my theory I decided to fill the ice tray up with water manually to make sure that it froze and that it was harvested. Well it didnt. the water froze ,the temperature in the freezer is near zero but the ice never ejects from the tray. So I have 2 problems. water not filling in the tray and when I manually filled it isd not being ejected. Any thoughts?

さんによる

did you reslove your ice issue? Because we have the exact same problem in our GE fridge as of last night! I did the same thing as you, Manually filled the ice tray as suggested online to see if the maker was working, yeah it freezes ice but doesn't drop it. Nor does it fill the tray with water, when it was empty.

I have a KitchenAid refrigerator and ice maker. My ice maker stopped working a few months ago. I've tried various fixes. I first removed the ice maker to inspect it and see if I could see anything visually wrong with it. I couldn't see any problems. I then found that the water inlet valve on the back of my refrigerator wasn't supplying water to the ice maker. I replaced that. That took a good portion of a Saturday. I found the part locally. Once repaired, the ice maker started making ice again. But then, after a few normal cycles and good ice cubes, it kept making a ticking noise. So I checked and the ice was getting stuck on top of the ice maker. It wasn't able to push it past a certain point. So, it wouldn't start a new cycle until the ice had actually been dumped into the ice bucket. I had to manually get it out and then it started a new cycle. I also giggled the mechanisms that are supposed to be turning and flipping the ice out. I'm not sure how much that helped. Today, the ice is stuck further down in the ice maker and I can't get it out. So I'm back to troubleshooting.

If all tests normal .Try Using,"Vaseline or pure silicone "polish metal compartment of ice tray .wash mild.dish.then Reinstall.

I figured out why mine was not dumping the ice! I had emptied the ice bucket and when it was put back in, the light weight of the iceless bucket allowed it to lean forward slightly, which blocked the infrared light. This made it think that the ice was full. I taped the top of the bucket in the back to the freezer door. It's dumping now! Will remove the tape when it gets more ice in it.

I have a KitchenAid KSRA25CN refrigerator. It has a set of infared eyes that need to be able to see across to each other, just like garage door sensors have. One of the two openings for the eye was partially blocked, thus blocking the eye being able to see the other eye. So the ice maker thought the bin was full of ice (the eyes being blocked is how it knows to stop making ice). I moved the bag hanging down and blocking it and it immediately dropped ice. For reference, one eye was under the switch to turn the ice maker on and off (on the right side of the freezer) and the other was at the bottom of the door open flap (left side of the freezer) that shuts off the ice dumping feature when the door is open so the ice doesn’t get dropped in the floor. Hope this helps!
