IS SSD the same as Flash Storage?
My question is simple, you guys call the Hard Drive SSD but on the Apple site they call it a Flash Storage, is it the same? If so where can I get a 512 GB SSD?

As technology changes sometimes its hard for people to adapt to the newer terms.
Solid State Drives (SSD) - is based on Flash storage. While Flash is often thought as being the slower technology. SSD's offer SATA, mSATA or now M.2 interfaces connected internally within the PC system or device.
Flash Drives - The first solid state storage system is often referred as a thumb drive. These drives are USB connected. Flash drives have all but replaced CD/DVD storage. Being faster and more portable.
Hard Drives (HD) - is based on a spinning disk which uses the same method of storage as audio or video magnetic medium. Using an arm like an old phonograph record player the head records or reads the magnetic areas of the spinning disk. Hard Drives where the first long term storage computers used.
In all three we have a long term storage solution Vs short term RAM memory storage. So when power is removed the information is still present unlike RAM memory which looses it.

Yes. Your answer is very informative, however what I was asking is: is the SSD drive that is referred to in the ifixit.com for the Mac Air 2013 the same storage that Apple calls the Flash Storage? Thank you for your response.
Sorry this is the help forum the IFIXIT folks support, not the store its self. As to your question the answer is yes the terms are interchangeable.
