Under the "odd sounds" heading you say "This could be due to the CD drive, if a CD is scratched..." You should list more specific details about the 'symptoms' rather than describe what could be causing the problem. That's what the sub-headings are for.

Also, the rubric asks for at least 5 troubleshooting topics, but the device is pretty simple, so maybe there aren't really any more issues.

Under Faceplate buttons will not work....
One of the tactile switches in the face plate is stuck 99% chance.
Watch this video for info, but DO NOT do any of the soldering
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3hO8viI...
Open the faceplate as per video.
Keep the face plate FACE DOWN, Be careful NOT to lose the Open button and spring at the corner and DO NOT turn the face plate up or the insides will fall out.
Once the circuit board is out, turn it over, Do not touch the LED display or apply pressure to it.
Using a meter to find the offending SW(s) is easier but you can do it this way.
Put your finger nail on the switch, press it down, move to the edge of the sw till it snaps back up. Do this a couple times to each switch. Test the face plate, most likely, you have cleared up the problem. If not try again.
Be careful and ground your self from static as this board is sensitive to static and can be damaged.
After the board begins to work, put it back together again.
