Released in 2005, the Samsung SCH-A890 cell phone resembles a typical flip phone and includes a rotating 1.3 megapixel camera.
Note: This troubleshooting guide only applies to the Samsung SCH-A890 and is not necessarily applicable to similar models.
Phone Does Not Turn On
Your phone will not switch on.
Battery Is Dead
The battery may not be able to hold a charge, and you will have to replace the battery.
Logic Board Is Broken
If you have replaced the battery and the problem is not fixed, you will have to replace the logic board.
Display Is Broken
If the phone seems to be working but the display is black, then the display is broken and you will need to repair or replace it.
Audio Does Not Work
There is no sound coming from your phone.
Volume Is Set Too Low
Increase the volume on the device by pressing the increase volume button on the left side of the device.
Call Is Not Connected
If you are receiving no audio during a call, check to see if the call is connected or if it was somehow disconnected. Press end to hang up on the call, and redial if the call was disconnected.
Phone Is Not Receiving a Signal
If you are still receiving no audio signal, call voicemail (press and hold "1" on the keyboard), and listen for the recorded message to check and see if your phone's speaker is malfunctioning.
Some Keys on Keypad Do Not Work
Some of the buttons on your phone do not register when you press them.
Logic Board Is Not Functioning Properly
If the connection between the board and the phone's keypad is malfunctioning, replace the phone's logic board.
Keypad Is Damaged
Dust or sand could be blocking the connection to the keypad. Water or other liquids may also be shorting out the connections. You will have to replace or repair the keypad.
Speaker Phone Does Not Function Properly
No sound comes out from the speaker phone when it is in use.
Connection to Logic Board Is Disrupted
If speaker phone fails to work, there could be a connection problem. Outer casing must be removed to check for any problems. This problem can be fixed either by replacing the speaker or by repairing any breaks in the wiring.
Phone Turns Off When Unplugged
Your phone turns off as soon as it is disconnected from the charter
Battery Is Dead
If the phone turns off immediately after you disconnect it from the AC charger, the battery is likely dead and you will need to replace it.
Electrical Connection Is Disrupted
If your phone dies from a drained battery and does not resume power after being connected to the charger, make sure the charger is properly plugged into the phone and the wall outlet.
Charger Is Broken
Referring to the problem above, if the cord and the charger are plugged in all the way to their correct locations, the charger is broken and will need to be replaced. Check your nearest Samsung Distributor for a replacement charger.
