If your Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 lags, struggles to open apps, or is overall unresponsive, follow this page for possible solutions.
Hard Reset Required
- Press and hold the power button until some options appear on screen, such as “Power off” or “Restart.”
- Select “Restart” (you may need to tap it twice) and wait for the device to complete the process.
- If no change to performance occurs, then instead select "Power off) (again, twice if needed) and wait for the device to power off completely.
- Press and hold the power button until the Samsung logo appears on screen. This is called a “hard reset,” and should improve performance speed.
- Wait until the process is complete and try seeing if your device performance has improved.
Low Battery
Battery life/power can affect device performance.
- Check to see if your cord is broken or old, and replace it as necessary.
- Check the type of cord. It must be a USB-C (Type C) for the device to charge properly.
- If your device uses low-power mode, that can slow the performance. To change that:
- Swipe down from the top of the screen.
- De-select “Power saving” mode. (It’s the battery-shaped icon with a triangle in the center.) Power saving mode saves on battery power, but also slows performance to optimize your battery usage.
Motherboard Failure
If all other options have failed, the problem may likely be the motherboard.
- Save all data onto another storage device and perform a factory reset. This is done by:
- Power off the device completely.
- Hold the power button until “Power off” appears.
- Select “Power off” twice.
- Then, hold the power button and volume up buttons simultaneously until the Android recovery screen appears.
- Use the volume buttons to navigate to “Wipe data/Factory reset” and press the power button to select it.
- Select “yes.”
- Select “reboot system now” to complete the process.
- Power off the device completely.
- If this still doesn’t work, then replace the motherboard.
