Battery level remains at 1%

Once your laptop reaches 1%, it does not keep charging after being plugged in.

Faulty AC Adapter

First, check if your laptop is properly plugged in. Next, make sure the power outlet is in working condition. Lastly, check for noticeable wire damage on the AC adapter. Try replacing the Dell Chromebook 5190 AC adapter if the laptop is still not detecting the charger.

Faulty Battery

If the computer does not charge after 30 minutes, then it might be a battery issue. Here is a guide to replace the Dell 5190 battery.

Failure to connect to Wi-Fi

The laptop might have problems connecting or failure to connect to wireless networks.

Chromebook attempting to connect to previous network

In your laptop go to setting click Wi-Fi. Nearby wireless networks should be displayed. Proceed to select your network and select forget network.

Faulty WLAN card

If your laptop does not show wireless networks even though there is wireless networks nearby, it is a sign that the WLAN card is working. Please refer to this guide to replace the WLAN card.

Laptop does not detect charger

When you plug in the charger, the charger indicator light does not turn on or your laptop does not recognize/read when plugged in.

Dirty Charging Port

If the USB type C charging connector is not going in completely, the port may be obstructed with debris. Locate the charging port on the right side of the laptop stamped with a plug image. Try using compressed air to loosen debris in the port.

Damaged Charging Port

Time, excessive force, or humidity can all damage a port. When the AC adapter is plugged in and the connector gets jammed, that may also be an indicator of a damaged port. Please refer to this guide to replace the USB type C charging port.

Sluggish and Glitching Laptop Performance

Laptop is running very slowly and glitches. You may be seeing a paused application and laptop is responding slowly to peripheral devices like keyboard and mouse.

Too Many Applications Running

An easy fix to a sluggish computer and sometimes overlooked is if you have many applications running simultaneously. To close applications: Click Windows Key>Type Task Manager>Enter> Right-click all running applications> End task. Typically the busiest applications will be at the top of the queue.

Dated Firmware

A hard reset through powering down your system can get the Chromebook to check for firmware updates and improve laptop performance. Press and hold the power button to completely shut down the computer. Let it sit for 5 minutes, and try powering up.

Faulty Motherboard

If the issues persist and your peripherals are completely unresponsive, there may be a hardware issue. Prolonged issues with overheating can lead to a damaged motherboard. Refer to this guide on how to replace the system board.

Distorted Audio

Your audio is distorted, buzzing, or rattling.

Dated Speaker Driver

To verify that it is a software issue, plug in wired headphones or external speakers into the audio jack. If the speakers/headphones are also outputting crackling or distorted audio, power down the computer. Dell Chromebook automatically checks for firmware updates on startup. Press the shutdown button, wait a minute, and turn on again.

Damaged Speakers

Either a buzzing or rattling sound can indicate damage to the laptop’s speaker. Try replacing the speaker using this guide.
