There are multiple versions of the LCD. There are a few ways to tell (color of the flex, i believe is one). I think 2 are cross compatible, but the other one is specifically that version. I would suggest comparing your old one to your new one, then contact seller of the screen.
I saw this video on youtube that showed how to apply adhesive to a evo 4g phone. might give you the info you need - http://youtu.be/kkjnFNLTIcU I had to use adhesive strips (3M) on my HD7 and that worked great, made a good seal - just be sure to apply it everywhere you can, otherwise you get dust under the screen. I had to open mine back up because i failed to do this originally.
I cracked my screen on my HD7 a while back. damaged both the LCD and touch screen - replaced the full screen assembly for cheap by http://www.repairsuniverse.com. Ive torn apart computers most of my life but never a phone, it was simple though, just requires some patients. If you are tech savyy, try replacing the screen yourself and save yourself some extra money. Doing it myself saved me about 60 bucks and was a good learning experience.
I had a similar issues with the volume button on my inspire (same as dsire hd). I took it apart to check the volume flex cable and the upper part of the cable had a slight rip. I went to this link and ordered a new one, popped it in and it worked fine. http://www.repairsuniverse.com/htc-desire-hd-main-flex-ribbon-cable-replacement.html yours sounds like it could also be an issue with the physical button as well. I would open it up and take a look.
