Make sure you connect the battery correctly and if anything sparked you may have shorted it and the logic board will no longer work.

Make sure you did not tear any flex cables of any kind. Doing this can cause many errors included the one you are currently having.

If you've ever dropped it the lcd cables could have came loose or the screen cables all together. Check itunes and if it recognizes it restore it

I had an ipod with a bad battery also. Buy a replacement... they are cheap and worth it because its outdated and its not going to recover.

Check the charger first. If that is not the problem you may need to replace the charging port.

Make sure all of the flex cables are still connected. Taking out the battery can cause some flex cables to come loose and many buttons will be disabled.
