The mini USB port is needed to access to the data or store new data on the hard drive. In order to attach the mini USB, you will need to know how to solder. When soldering, you run the risk of damaging the board (and yourself).

  Start by turning the device port side up.
  
  With the plastic opening tool, pry along the edges of the case.
  
  When you hear the case snap-out of its fitted grooves, slowly slide the board assembly out of the case.

  Soldering irons can get HOT! Do not touch the iron tip, make sure it cools down for a good 30 minutes before touching the tip.
