Use this guide to remove the console, top panel, door boot, and front bulkhead on a newer-style GE front-load washing machine. This gives you access to internal components such as the drain pump, motor, and door lock. The top panel on this style is retained differently than on earlier models, so follow the release steps closely.

-
手順1 Remove the dispenser drawer and screws
-
Pull the dispenser drawer fully out and press the rear tab to release it.
-
Remove the five screws from the dispenser housing using a screwdriver with a magnetic tip.
-
Make sure the two center screws are fully backed out before pulling the console. They can rethread themselves if left partially engaged.
-
-
手順2 Detach the console from the washer
-
Lift the left edge of the console slightly, then push it to the right to free it.
-
Confirm all dispenser screws are removed or they may block console movement.
-
-
手順3 Remove the top panel for access
-
Remove the three small screws at the top of the washer behind the console area.
-
Slide the top panel forward and lift it away to expose the machine’s interior.
-
Remove or loosen wire ties with pliers or disconnect the console harness for more slack if needed.
-
-
手順4 Detach the door boot and remove the door lock facade
-
Use a small flathead screwdriver to pry off the outer door-boot retaining spring, then peel the boot edge away from the bulkhead.
-
Remove the two screws securing the plastic facade on the door-lock side.
-
Remove the two screws beneath the facade to free the door lock from the bulkhead.
-
-
手順5 Remove the front bulkhead
-
Remove the screws along the top and sides of the bulkhead, including the screws near the dispenser area.
-
If needed, tilt the washer slightly to loosen the three screws underneath.
-
Remove the three screws securing the air baffle, then slide it away from the bulkhead.
-
Disconnect the wire harness on the left side before pulling the bulkhead forward.
-
-
手順6 Reinstall the front bulkhead
-
Reconnect the left-side wire harness behind the bulkhead before lowering the bulkhead into place.
-
Lift the bulkhead above the chassis and lower it onto the plastic mounts.
-
Align the blower fan part of the door boot with the slots on the bulkhead and secure them.
-
Reinstall all bulkhead screws, working from the outside edges in toward the center.
-
-
手順7 Reinstall the door boot and lock
-
Fit the door lock into position on the bulkhead and secure it with two screws.
-
Place the plastic facade over the lock and attach it with two more screws.
-
Pull the door boot onto the metal lip of the bulkhead, ensuring a tight channel fit.
-
Use a Smart Wrench or zip ties to stretch the large door-boot spring back into place.
-
-
手順8 Reassemble the top panel and console
-
Reseat the top panel on the washer and secure it with the three upper-edge screws.
-
Align the console with the two flat-head screws on the right side and lower it in place.
-
Push the console left until it snaps fully and locks into position.
-
Reinstall the five dispenser housing screws, noting that two middle screws are larger.
-
Slide the dispenser drawer back in until the rear tab clicks securely.
-
To reassemble your washer, follow these steps in reverse order. Double-check that the wire harnesses, door boot, and bulkhead screws are fully seated before restoring power. Repair didn't go as planned? Ask our Answers community for help.
