Mammography, also called mastography is the examination of the human breast for screening and diagnosis using low-energy x-rays. The goal being to detect cancer early via masses or microcalcifications.

A mammogram, which is an x-ray picture of the breast, is done by standing in front of a special x-ray machine. The, “ breasts are compressed between two firm surfaces to spread out the breast tissue.” according to Mayo Clinic, and black and white images are taken and displayed on a computer screen.
