Background and Identification

The Epson Stylus is a series of inkjet printers manufactured by Seiko Epson Corporation, also called Epson. Epson is an abbreviation for “Son of Electronic Printer” and is headquartered in Japan. Epson is one of the world’s largest producers of computer printers and information and imaging related equipment.

The Epson Stylus 800 printer was released in March 1993 as the first of the Stylus series. The 800 model includes Micro Piezo inkjet technology, which uses a piezoelectric crystal in each nozzle and does not heat the ink at the print head while spraying ink onto the paper. In 1994, the Epson Stylus Color was released as the first high-resolution color inkjet printer (720 by 720 dots per inch) and also included the Micro Piezo head technology. Newer Stylus models use Epson’s DURABrite ink and include two hard drives.

Epson Stylus printers all include the name “Stylus” in their model name, in addition to a more specific set of letters and numbers that identify the printer model. Epson Stylus models also often include the word “Color” in the model name for color inkjet printers. Epson printers include the name “Epson” printed in capital letters generally located in the front center of the device.
