FX-991EXはソーラーパネルと電池を併用し、192 x 63の液晶ディスプレイを搭載している。前面には60個のボタンがあり、合計522の機能を持つ。GCSE、A-Levels、National and Higher、Junior and Leavingなど、幅広い試験での持ち込みが許可されている。
FX-991EXには、ピンク（FX-991EX-PK）とブルー（FX-991EX-BU）のカラーバリエーションが2つ存在する。
