Background
Bose released the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) in September 2024 as a minor revision of the 2021 SoundLink Flex. The chassis, acoustic package (single transducer plus dual passive radiators), IP67 rating, 12-hour battery, and PositionIQ orientation sensing all carry over from the first generation.
The update centers on connectivity: Bluetooth moves to 5.3 with Snapdragon Sound (aptX Adaptive) support alongside SBC and AAC, multipoint connects two source devices, and a new programmable Shortcut button joins the top control row. The Shortcut button is configured in the Bose app and can toggle Stereo Mode/Party Mode pairing with a second compatible Bose speaker, among other functions. Note that the 2nd Gen uses the newer Bose app, not the Bose Connect app used by the original. Bose describes the speaker as drop-proof and rust-proof, and it floats.
The SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen) retails for $159 and is available in Black, Blue Dusk, Sandstone, Twilight Blue, Fog Grey, or limited-edition Alpine Sage.
Identification
The Flex 2 is a rectangular speaker with a silicone-wrapped body, powder-coated steel grille, nylon utility loop on the side, and a top row of buttons. It is nearly identical to the original SoundLink Flex; distinguishing features are the programmable Shortcut button (absent on the original) and slightly larger rubber feet. The Bose model number is printed on the rear regulatory label.
