Troubleshooting Water Damage in Bluetooth Headsets
Background and Identification
Bluetooth technology was originally discovered and developed in 1996 by Dr. Jaap Haartsen, and was named after a famous 10th century viking and king (Harald Gormsson) who united Denmark and Norway. The first consumer bluetooth device was launched three years later in 1999. However, bluetooth technology did not become widespread until much later in 2004.
Bluetooth technology has significantly improved over the years. In 2009, Bluetooth 3.0 + HS (high speed) was introduced. Bluetooth 3.0 is 11 times faster than the previous iteration introduced just three years prior. Just one year later in 2010, Bluetooth 4.0 improved upon the connectivity and range as well as the energy consumption of bluetooth devices.
One of the most common uses of bluetooth is for audio. Bluetooth technology can be found in all types of audio devices such as headphones, car stereo systems, speakers, cellphones, etc. Bluetooth headsets first started off as earpieces used as an extension for mobile communication. As of 2020, bluetooth headsets have become some of the most popular consumer electronics in the market and are mainly in the form of earbuds, headphones, and speakers. Bluetooth headsets are moving towards LE Audio (low energy) in order to transmit audio and music to more than one device from a singular device.
