Background and Identification
The Toyota Camry has been manufactured by Toyota since 1982. The XV10 is a mid-size car produced between 1991 and 1996 by Toyota and was part of Camry’s V30 series. The XV10 was the third generation of the Toyota Camry and is divided into different model codes based on various engine types.
The V30 series is slightly larger than the V20 series but still had to comply with Japanese dimension restrictions which limited the Camry’s width to 67 inches and length to 190 inches. In the United States, this narrow model was considered a compromise, which reduced its sales potential. The XV10 series was released in 1991 as a “wide-body” mid-size Camry. The XV10 series upgraded the Camry’s status to Toyota’s second internationally-selling car.
The “wide-body” XV10 Camry was influenced by engineering from Lexus and the LS400, including hydraulically powered cooling fans. The 1992 Camry was enlarged and re-designed to resemble a scaled-down LS400 vehicle to help Lexus establish its reputation. While the XV10 series was in production, the Camry and Lexus lines became more distinctive and Camry became a more affordable, spacious sedan. The XV10 series featured a 2.2-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 130 horsepower of power and 145 foot-pounds of torque, at its most basic level. Exact specifications vary depending on the market and year of the Camry.
The 1991-1996 Toyota Camry can be identified by the Toyota emblem, which depicts two perpendicular ovals inside of a larger oval, and the name “Camry” in capital letters on the right side of the vehicle’s trunk.
