Thank you both. Now I believe it is a software problem. But how do I detect this faulty software?

Restart in safe mode if the problem goes away you have a software (extension) problem. If it does not you have a hardware (physical damage) problem.

To resolve an extension conflict from Safe-Boot if you have recently installed any 3rd party mouse/trackpad apps remove them and reboot.

If you haven't installed any new applications look at, list or take a screen shot & print out the working set of System/Library/Extensions pay close attention to those that have mouse or trackpad in the name they are the "good" ones you want to keep.

'You'll need access to another Mac. Reboot your Mac in Target Disk Mode connect to your machine, remove any and all mouse or trackpad extensions not listed in the safe boot. Disconnect and restart your machine.

I had this problem in my Mac mini and from the code error one of the Logitech.Control Center.HID Driver installed seemed to me faulty. I uninstalled it my Mac was fine. There must be some faulty program or driver causing this error. Hardware malfunction can't be ignored too.
