Screens are blank but blue light on.

The battery is holding a charge.

When turned on, the power light lights blue and stays on. Nothing shows on the screen, no flickers or anything. Opening/closing the hinge doesn't make the screen flicker or show any life signs.

Have you replaced anything or opened up the device before?

さんによる

No not at all. It has only ever been used by my father-in-law to play card games. I think it's about 3 years old.

You can also see if there is something wrong with the orange ribbon cables under the left shoulder button.

It can be the d pad needs replacing. It's a cheap part and easy to replace. See the guides on the right.

Thanks for the suggestion. I looked and I would be surprised if it was the D-pad. The internals are very clean and show almost no signs of wear, probably because it was only used to play card games using the touchscreen.

さんによる

I had this problem.. Fixed with new dpad. You need to find out whether you have current flowing from battery to board.. Opening and looking isn't going to tell you that. You need a multimeter.

さんによる

How can you go about following the flow of power to the particular parts on the board? I've got a few problematic 3DS XLs with a similar issue and trying to find the problem area is proving difficult.

さんによる

I don't want to dismantle my dsi and buy a new d-pad just for playin pokemon

さんによる

Does this also work for the 2ds?

Take battery out and charger off. Unscrew it. Remove the bottom cover slowly. Be careful of the 2 ribbon cables when removing it, best to start lifting up from the side opposite the card slot. You will see a big black square below the card slot. That's the wifi card. pry it up (it has a removable socket) and push it back in. Most probably it's gotten a bump and got slightly disconnected. When disconnected, the dsi will perform the symptoms you describe. It could be something else, but most of the time, It's this.

Wish I helped.

Cheers

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately this didn't fix it. If it makes any difference, from what I can tell both screens are doing *something* when powered on; that is, they go from black to a a slightly different shade of black, but there is no discernable image so maybe that means the backlights are working but the LCDs are remaining opaque.

さんによる

Yes I can definitely see black pixels when powered on.

Mine don't show any light on my screen and only blue light comes on can you help it charges

さんによる

Yes it solved the same problem I had. I am my bro were playing using wifi the New Super Mario Brothers and then when we finished my DSI said to turn the console off. As I did the screen went all white then I turned it off and it didn't turn back on, with only the blue light staying as same as OP. I carefully opened the DSI and removed the wifi and put it back and it worked! Thank you very much for this info

Not only will the DSi exhibit this symptom with a loose WiFi module, but it will also exhibit this symptom with a faulty WiFi module.

Swapping my unit's WiFi module with a donor system made this $10.99 purchase from eBay a perfectly functional.

Note that the DS Lite works the same way as the DSi. If the WiFi module is unplugged/loose/faulty, the unit will turn on but nothing happens.

I had the same problem but I was fiddling with my 3ds today and I found that if I held down the Power Button for about 10 seconds, it turned on again. My situation was that I went out, decided to place it in my bag for a while. However, when I reached home, I found that the 3ds screens were black but the blue light and the other orange light was on. When I charged it, the charging light comes on too. So I figured that maybe I put it in sleep for too long or something.

IF NONE OF THE ABOVE SOLUTIONS WORK:

The microphone (orange/pink cable) may have come loose, or the microphone is broken. I just repaired my DSI which randomly stopped turning on. Blue light but both screens are off. The microphone cable came loose and popped up (It is directly to the wifi card once you pop the back off). I put it back on and it booted first try.

It could either be the wifi card (as listed above), or it could be the microphone.
