I've got a launch model Steam Deck and I'm considering swapping up from 256GB to 2TB on the internal SSD. I remember the initial Valve-provided video suggests not opening the Deck as that will likely disrupt the cooling airflow due to using self-tapping screws on the original case.
Should I be replacing the front and back panels at the same time if I want to replace the SSD, in order to avoid this potential cooling problem?

When you open it up and finish working on it, spin the screws backward until they fall into place to avoid creating new threads. That will be suffienct for your case.
