Vertical colour bars on the LCD screen when switched on

MacBook Pro 15.4" Mid 2015 A1398 (IntelCore 2.8 GHz)

When switched on, the display shows vertical coloured bars under which the desktop is partially "readable". The MacBook is virtually uncontrollable. The LCD has no visible external damage (only the black rubber around the display is torn in a few places).

The display is probably not the cause of the problem, as the streaks also show up on the external display (another MacBook with the same configuration) as well as on the 9th gen iPad.

What is causing this problem? Is it the LCD cables, connectors, or part of the logic board (the whole board)?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

This series came in two configs just the iGPU or with a second GPU As you can see here in this listing All A1398 systems

If an external display directly plugged in shows the bars then you’ve ruled out the internal display as well as its cable. What you are encountering is an iGPU (Intel CPU) logic failure, that’s is before the AMD GPU becomes active if present.

This is the model: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbo...

... is there any reasonable solution to this?

@radpos - I’m still not sure how you tested things, where you using Target Display Mode or remote connecting via a network connection to the troubled system. The simplest way to isolate the problem is by a direct external display as it remotes other variables. Also we only want to get to the desktop not launch any apps.

So you have a DG version which has a dedicated AMD GPU.
