Why did Xbox series s unpair from controller mid game?

With no previous issues, our Xbox s randomly unpaired from the controller being used mid game (popped up the “controller disconnected/please reconnect controller” message like when controller batteries die). Since then, it has not allowed us to repair either controller to the Xbox. We tried new controller batteries, turning Xbox and controller off and back on, letting Xbox cool down, and manually pairing the controller with no success. Could this be that the bluetooth board randomly fried (this happened out of nowhere and there were no issues or glitches to connectivity with the controller before this point), or could it be something else? We’ve had this Xbox for barely two years at most and would prefer not to have to replace it. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help for your time and information/advice.
