MacBook Pro Logic Board suddenly not booting

Basically, during normal operation of my macbook, not much CPU load either, it suddenly shut down. When I opened it, power delivery to the USB C ports was working, like for example, my mouse would light up, but the Mac itself won't boot, I then noticed a small buzzing sound coming from the top of the top case.

Around this area:

Here is a video recording that shows exactly how that buzzing sounded like:

The video might have caught some background sounds, ignore everything but the specific buzzing sound. This buzzing sound was always there whenever the logic board had any sort of power, if it was on battery only it would make that buzzing sound, if it was on USB C power supply only it would also make thag sound.

Another thing I noticed was that the logic board would always turn itself on whenever connected to power at all, if either the battery or power supply were connected, the buzzing sound would happen, then if I hold the power button to shut off the macbook, it would turn off normally, all power delivery to USB c would go away like normal but then 5 seconds later the logic board would go back to life again.

Following that I tried an SMC reset, after the SMC reset, now nothing works, doesn't boot, power delivery to USB c doesn't work, and I no longer hear the buzzing sound.

I would really like to not replace the entire logic board if possible, but if it comes down to it I would not have any problems, I am just inquiring in case there is a way I can solve this without replacing the entire logic board.

Thanks.

EDIT: I forgot to mention this, but I found a solution online that stated that I should leave the macbook for a while without any power, so I disconnected the USB C power supply, as well as disconnected the battery and kept it overnight, still nothing happened.

Furthermore, something I forgot to mention, I am 100% sure this is not a battery problem, as the Mac doesn't boot on the power supply alone either.

From the sound of it (buzzing) your logic board indeed has a circuit problem. It’s likely repairable but will need someone with deeper skills and specialized tools to fix it. While replacing the logic board is an option, that would be quite expensive and finding an unlocked iCloud board will be hard let alone getting the matted power button with it.

Maybe it’s time to get a new used system to replace this one.

The buzzing went away after an SMC reset though ?

@yahiaelramal - That doesn’t alter things, as the SMC reset didn’t effect the power circuit directly. The buzzing is an inductor which is jumping states. I’m sure you’ve heard a power transformer along a street buzzing which is a sign of eminent failure if not already failed. This is just a smaller version of circuit. The inductor it’s self is not the failure it’s the logic behind it.

@danj Thanks for the reply man, if you know, can you circle which component on the logic board is the failing inductor that needs fixing?

@yahiaelramal - I guess I wasn’t clear enough:

The inductor it’s self is not the failure it’s the logic behind it.

@danj So replacing the specific inductor wont fix anything right ?
