Why is my phone is charging slow

While charging someone out shows time(it charges at very slow speed if 1 hour is remaining it will charge in 2 or 2.5 hours) of charging and sometime it doesn't change a single percent for 1 hour is it because of heat or something(temperature reaches 40°C sometimes)
