the black plastic covering on the bottom of my screen - the part with "MacBook Pro" on it - is cracked. where do I buy a replacement one? it does not appear to be connected to any components and is just secured with adhesive, can anyone also let me know if this is an incorrect assumption.

Well to start off the chin plate is glass! So to be careful you don’t cut your self.
Using a hair dryer or heat gun at a low setting and shielding the screen you should be to carefully unstick the plate using a thin spatula. Don’t dig too deep as there are fragile cables just behind which you don’t want to damage.
