My computer won't turn on

When I press the power button on the computer, the computer does not turn on, but the control lights next to the power button turn on and blink for a minute and then the computer turns off

LED 1 is lit continuously

LED 2 and 3 are on alternately

Attached is a picture

I would appreciate an answer

Thanks in advance

Hi @elchanan1

A blinking caps lock and scroll lock light indicates a motherboard problem (CPU?).

Try removing the ram and start the laptop. If there are no error beeps heard then the motherboard is faulty as ram is checked early on in POST (power on self test) so it hasn't even got that far when starting

Has the laptop been dropped or gotten wet at all?

I can only suggest that you download the schematic for the motherboard and check the voltages - see p.47 (CPU voltage) and p.48

Have you tried another outlet? Or cable?

I tried another cable and it didn't help

The same fault remained

There may be a power failure. It may be the motherboard or battery, both, or something else.

さんによる

Could also be a corrupted OS.

I tried turning on the computer only when it is plugged in without a battery and still the same error remains

And it's not an operating system because the bios still doesn't come up

Have you tried to check the power button? It may be a problem with the case's power button

My first thoughts:

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us...

Have you tried reseating the ram and swapping out modules one at a time?

Bad ram is so often the culprit.

Removing one module at a time, trying only one module, and then swapping them around after reseating them

might fix the issue or at least change your LED indicators.

Have you checked all your internal component connections yet (hdd, videocard, modem, CPU, ODD, etc.)?

It's remotely possible you might need to replace the cooling paste on your CPU after so many years.

If it's cheap and easy, I would replace the BIOS battery just for good measure.

Good luck!

I already tried everything except thermal paste, but thermal paste should not cause such a malfunction
