iPhone X battery connector broken

I've got an iPhone X laying around with a broken battery connector. The connector looks fine visually. Phone restarts every 3 min and stays at 0% doens't take any charge. Only works if i put more pressure on the battery connector. It took me 6 months to figure this out, so i want to make 100% sure that replacing that connector will be a permanent fix. Any thoughts?

Hi Sem,

As @dotmiracle has already shown, there's some confusion as to which connector you're referring to; my assumption was that you're talking about the FPC connector on the logic board.

However, dotmiracle does bring up a good point; you have tried a different battery, right? If not, you definitely should, since it is possible the bad connection is on the battery connector rather than the motherboard plug.

Otherwise you're absolutely correct that the next logical step is to replace the FPC connector on the motherboard. If you've got someone with a hot air station you could try to reflow the connector; i.e., you melt the solder thus restoring any connections that have been interrupted due to a cracked solder joint. It's only slightly less work than actually replacing the connector and there's no guarantee it'll work, but it's something you could try.

Have you tried cutting out something thin to sit on top of the battery connector so as to put more pressure on it when the cover plate is screwed down onto it? That could be a temporary fix while you order parts and/or locate a repair facility.

Hey, sorry about the confusion. The issue revolves around the connector on the logic board. About six months ago, my phone started acting up with sensor errors. I went ahead and replaced pretty much every part, also the battery, but no luck there. Found the problem when I decided to transfer the logic board to a new housing with different original components. The battery connection turned out to be super loose, except with the original battery and the replacement I tried. I have already attempted the temporary fix you suggested, and it works great. Thanks for the reply! I'll be ordering a new connector soon, and it should be easy to replace.

@aaaa13 Sounds good! When you get all done with it, come on back and let us know how it went. Always love to hear success stories and can usually learn something from unsuccessful repairs if that's the way it goes.

Will do! ……..

Replacing the battery connector is possible, but requires soldering. It may be easier/cheaper in the long run to get a new battery.

I wouldn’t try replacing the connector if you are not experienced, as this is a double layer board which users low melt solder to connect the two layers. If putting pressure on the connector solves the problem it means the pins on the battery connector have most likely been pushed into the plastic and or the connector has been pushed out of shape. With some magnification and a pair of surgical tweezers you should be able to pry the pins out a bit and squeeze the sides of the connector a little bit so as the pins are all making contact and the connector fits back in snuggly.

I've got all the tools and equipment needed for the repair. I'm pretty sure changing this connector will work out fine. I may not be as experienced as a pro, but it shouldn't be a big deal in this case. Thanks for the reply!
