@abdiqadirweyrah The no video issue can be related to a bad backlight inverter circuitry or a bad backlight array. A simple check for that would be to darken the room and turn the computer on. Then use a flashlight and angle the light at the screen on different areas. You might make out some shadows of your desktop etc. If so, you know it's your backlight. We will have to know the exact year and model number so we can determine what type of backlight your computer has.

If you cannot see the desktop with the flashlight method than the issue could be that there is no video genearted. Could be a bad GPU, bad display connector etc. Connect an external monitor. If that shows correctly, you know your GPU is okay. That leaves a bad LCD , bad connector or failed component on the motherboard. As you can tell, there are plenty of issues that could come up. It is up to your trouble-shooting to narrow it down.

Hi @abdiqadirweyrah

With the laptop turned on etc, connect an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop's HDMI port and check if you get a display on it. Press the F7 key to toggle between the laptop screen only, the external display only or both on together.

If there is a display showing on the external monitor, try shining a flashlight at an angle close to the laptop screen and check if you can detect any images at all. They will be very faint if they are there, so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them.

If you can see images, then there's a backlight problem with the laptop screen. This could be due to a faulty backlight power circuit on the motherboard, faulty video cable/cable connection between the board and the display or a faulty display.

If you can't see any images this could be due to a faulty video cable/cable connection between the motherboard and the display or a faulty display.

If there is no display showing on the external monitor are you sure that the laptop is turning on and starting? It may be that it is not passing POST (power on self test)

Try a full power refresh and check if that resolves the problem

  • Turn off the laptop if it is on and disconnect the charger if it is connected.
  • Open the laptop and disconnect the main battery from the motherboard.
  • Disconnect the RTC coin cell battery from the motherboard

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop. Go to p.66 and p.73 to view the procedure to disconnect the main battery and the coin cell battery, respectively.

When the RTC coin cell battery is removed, measure its voltage. If it is <2.5V DC replace it. The part number is 04W1642. Search online using the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.

  • Press and hold the laptop's Power button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.
  • Reconnect and replace the RTC coin cell battery (or its replacement), reconnect the main battery, reassemble the laptop, connect the charger and check if the laptop turns on OK

If it turns on OK there may be a message about the date and time being incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been reset. Once the date and time have been adjusted, the message won't appear the next time the laptop is turned on. Also if any user definable settings in BIOS have been changed to suit whatever your operating requirement are, they will have to be changed back again.
